When I was first diagnosed with Type II diabetes, I was afraid of the possible consequences of losing my foot or my vision. So, I was very careful about my diet, took my medicine, exercised, and regularly checked my blood. As a result, I lost about twenty pounds fairly quickly. Then, unfortunately, I became complacent. Old habits die hard.

I went back to doing less exercise, not watching my calories intake, and not regularly checking my sugar. As a consequence, my blood sugar was shooting up and the weight was coming back on. Instead of giving up, I concentrated on how my life had improved when I actually followed my doctor’s advice to eat less and move more. I forced myself to get a little bit of the fear back, because even though Type II diabetes is treatable, there are consequences to the condition. Thus, I have once again altered my lifestyle so I can live a full and healthy life.
